Address: Castle Hill, Guildford GU1, UK

Location
Guildford Castle is located in Surrey, England. It is thought to have been built by William the Conqueror, or one of his barons, shortly after the 1066 invasion of England. It's located near the top of Guildford High Street and is only 50 metres away from the nearest car park.
Parking
Tunsgate car park is small, with around 20-30 spaces on ground level only. Payment can be made with cash or by contactless at the machine.
Times | Fees |
8am-6pm | up to 3 hours: £4 up to 6 hours: £8 over 6 hours: £16 |
6pm-10pm | £2 per visit |

Tunsgate car park tends to fill up quickly on the weekends, so during busier times, visitors may have to opt for Castle car park, which is much larger and only 150 metres from the castle itself.
Accessing the Castle Grounds

The distance from Tunsgate car park to the castle is approximately 50 metres.
There is a short but steep slope leading up to the castle (pictured above). At the hilltop, visitors will find benches and a panoramic view of the surrounding town. Additionally, there are seating areas around the bowling green and bandstand.
The paths are smooth, although some slopes are quite steep.
There are no public toilets at the castle or its gardens. The nearest toilets are located 150 metres from the castle, down Tunsgate Street. The Tunsgate toilets are accessible for disabled visitors and include baby changing facilities.
Local Shops and High Street

While visiting the castle, you'll also have the opportunity to see Guildford's famous high street.
Venture up the street opposite the castle, called Tunsgate, and you'll find a variety of shops, including a café and a record shop. There is outdoor seating available.
Walk a little further, and you will reach the main high street. It is on a hill and has fewer places to stop and rest, but it is well worth exploring, with many old shops and the historic Guildford Guildhall Clock.
